Fannie Mahoney Champion, 77, departed this life on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at her home in Dalzell. Born January 25, 1938, in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Mahoney, Sr. and Mary Gooden Mahoney. She was united in marriage to the late Henry “Champ” Champion. She attended the Public Schools of Sumter County. At an early age, she joined Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, Woodrow. Fannie was one of the most beautiful person anyone could meet. She leaves to cherish her memories: three sons, Samuel Champion of Savannah, GA, Henry (Cheryl) Champion and John (Betty) Champion, both of Dalzell; one adopted son, Levant (P-Nut) Brisbon of Dalzell; five daughters, Mary Louise (Robert) Johnson of Sumter, Evelyn Ludd and Sarah (Jerry) Evans, both of Dalzell, Rachel (Greg) Brown of Sumter, Janie Champion of the home; seventeen grandsons; five granddaughters; four great grandsons; nine great granddaughters; two brothers, Samuel Mahoney, Jr. of Dalzell; James (Katie) Mahoney of Sumter; four sisters, Lula “Sweet” (Ernest) Jenkins of Sumter, Esther (Billy) Rogers of Upper Marlboro, MD, Johnnie Mae Mahoney of Sumter, Lucille Mahoney Sanders of Washington, DC; one brother-in-law, Fred Prescott of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Lillian Reidout of New York, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, adopted grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Homegoing services will be held 12:00 noon, Friday, January 15, 2016 from the Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Woodrow, with the Rev. Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, pastor, eulogist. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 2645 Shingle Mill Road, Dalzell. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m. for viewing. The funeral procession will leave from the home at 11:20 a. m. Floral bearers will be nieces. Pall bearers will be family and friends. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Pear Street, Sumter.
