Archie Anderson, Jr. 73, departed this earthly life, Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at his home in Sumter. He was born in Lee County on May 8, 1942 to the late Archie Anderson, Sr. and Mabel Butler Anderson. He was raised in Colclough and Woodrow, South Carolina by his grand aunt, Fannie “Ma Mae” Cabbagestalk Johnson. He received his education in the Lee County Public School System. At an early age, he joined Mount Olive A.M.E. Church, Woodrow, where he served diligently as a member of Church School Class #2, Sons of Allen, Male Chorus, Trustee and Usher Boards. He was faithful when asked to perform his church parking yard duty. He was employed at Georgia Pacific Cooperation, Campbell Soup, Inc. and Gold Kist, Inc. for many years. Archie was a fun loving and caring person who loved spending time with his family and friends. He adored his grand and great grandchildren and spoiled them at every opportunity. His passion was helping others and sharing his many talents and entertaining people with his funny sense of humor. He also loved gardening. On November 26, 1971, he was joined in Holy matrimony to Mary James Anderson. This union was blessed with 44 years of blissful marriage. Left to cherish his memories are: his wife, Mary James Anderson; five children, Calvin (Catherine) Anderson, Patricia A. Anderson, Patrice (James) Lewis, Willie A. Anderson and Bridgette ( Arthur) Davis, all of Sumter; six grandchildren, Calvin A., De’Osha L., Seqouia K., Willie D. and Ka’Mya Anderson, Jada Lewis; three great grand children, Cornelius J., Ka’Layah D. and Cambra Anderson; one brother in law, Frankie Lee James of Camden; three sisters-in-law, Bernice Anderson, Willie Mae Scott and Celestine James, all of Sumter; ten nephews; eight nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by ten brothers; five sisters; three uncles and two aunts. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Mount Olive A.M. E. Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Woodrow, with the Rev. Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Timothy A. Johnson and Rev. Dr. Ernest Jackson. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 2660 Yank Haven Drive, Sumter. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. The funeral procession will leave from the home at 10:20 a. m. Floral bearers will be granddaughters and ushers. Pall bearers will be grandsons and nephews. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Pear Street, Sumter.
