Josephine Brunson Frierson, 97, entered eternal rest on Friday, June 10, 2016 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence. Born in Clarendon County, July 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Reverend McKever and Susan Simmons Brunson. She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County, and furthered her education by attending Morris College. At an early age, she joined St. James A. M. E. Church, Clarendon County, and held firmly to her Christian faith throughout her entire life. She was united in marriage to the late Lander Mellerson, to that union two children were born and one preceded her in death. Following the passing of her husband, she moved to Sumter and was united in matrimony to the late Haskel Frierson and was blessed with five children. Upon moving to Sumter, she joined Union Station A. M. E. Church, where her father, the late Rev. McKever Brunson was the assistant Pastor. She became active in several organizations. Later, she joined Victory Full Gospel Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Joann Murrill. Mrs. Frierson was a loyal church member and dearly loved and respected by the members of the church. She often shared her favorite saying Im going to hold out till the end because 99 wont do. She was employed at the Eastern Star Nursing Home for many years and also as nursing assistant providing private duty for elderly people. She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Willene Wilkerson and Dorothy Howard; four sons, Michael (Jessie), McKever and Charlie Frierson, all of Sumter and Raymond Frierson of Columbia; three sisters-in-law; Mary Lee Brunson of Sumter, Julia Blackwell of Pompano Beach, FLA, Mamie Frierson; a brother-in-law, George Frierson of Temple Hill, MD; 18 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016, 11:00 a. m., from the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 325 West Fulton Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. James B. Blassingame, pastor, Pastor Roosevelt Way, pastor of Breakthrough Covenant Christian Center, Cayce, eulogist, Pastor Dr. Joann Murrill, presiding. The family is receiving friends and relatives at the home, 12 W. Hunter Street, Sumter. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. The funeral procession will leave from the home at 10:20 a. m. Floral bearers will be great granddaughters. Pall bearers will be great grandsons. Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, 3001 Cains Mill Road, Sumter.
