Jim Butler, 77, departed his earthly life on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Born March 15, 1939, in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Harrison Butler, Sr. and Mary Essie Robinson Butler. “Joe”, as he was affectionately called, attended the public schools of Sumter County. He joined Bethel AME Church at an early age. During his early teen age years, he moved to Jersey City, New Jersey, where he worked as a fork lift driver. Upon returning to South Carolina in 1975, he was employed with Roosevelt Butler Residential Home for several years. He was married to the late Joyce Dixon Butler, and later he was united in matrimony to Delores Robinson Butler. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Delores Robinson Butler; three sons, Steven (Thomasina) Butler, Keon (Latoya) Robinson and Rashad Robinson; one daughter, Lillian (Michael) Richbow; three brothers, Harrison (Evelyn) Butler III, Titus (Carrie) Butler and Roosevelt (Judy R.) Butler; one sister, Mary Lee (Thomas) Pearson; one aunt, Azalee Wilder; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 19, 2016, 3:00 p. m., from the Bethel A. M. E. Church, 1605 South Kings Highway, Wedgefield , with the Rev. Larry D. Clark, Sr., pastor, eulogist. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 4695 Cane Savannah Road, Wedgefield. The Remains will be placed in the church at 2:00 p. m.. The funeral procession will leave from the home at 2:20 p. m. Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be family and friends. Burial will be in the Bethel A. M. E. Church cemetery.
