Maggie McDonald Ellison, 77, departed this life on Saturday, August 27, 2016, after a brief illness, at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Born in Sumter County, December 15, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Steward and Maggie Wilson McDonald, Sr. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Freddie Ellison on November 25, 1961. She was educated in the public schools of South Carolina and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1956. She continued her education and earned a BS degree from Morris College in 1960, Masters Degree from Atlanta University in 1971 and Education specialist certification from University of South Carolina in 1985. Upon completing her education she worked in the public schools of Clarendon and Sumter counties, where she retired in 1992 after teaching mathematic for 30 years at Sumter High School. Ms. Ellison had a true passion for teaching. Her philosophy of teaching illustrated her belief that teaching allowed her to help students develop to his or her fullest potential. She was a faithful member of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, where she participated in the Young Womenís Association, Education Ministry and Missionary Board. She was an active member of the Sumter community and served on several committees throughout the years. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Judy Ellison Houston of Hopkins and Carla Faye Ellison of Myrtle Beach; one granddaughter, Keneithra Houston of Sumter; three sisters, Geneva Montgomery and Sarah McFadden of Sumter, Sadie Bell Marshall of Hyattsville, MD; one brother, Steward McDonald of Fayetteville, NC; two nieces; five nephews; a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016, 1:00 p. m., from the Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 805 South Harvin Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Marion H. Newton, pastor, eulogist. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 820 Baysprings Drive, Sumter. The remains will be placed in the church at 12:00 noon. The procession will leave from the home at 12:20 p. m. Flower bearers and pall bearers will be family and friends. Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, 3001 Cainís Mill Road, Sum
