Joseph Bolden, Jr., 66, peacefully departed this life on Friday, September 16, 2016 at the Sumter East Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sumter, after a lengthy illness at Tuomey Hospital. Born October 3, 1949, in Sumter County, he was the oldest of eight children of the late Joseph Bolden, Sr. and Maggie Dinkins Bolden. He was educated in the Sumter County Public School System and graduated from Ebenezer High School in 1968. He furthered his education and graduated from Columbia Technical College with a diploma as a heavy equipment operating engineer. “Junior”, “Jell”, “Cracker Jack” or “Joe”, as he was known, received his religious education early in life at Hopewell Baptist Church, where he was baptized. Junior first marriage was to Desiree Campbell and his second marriage was to Brenda Witherspoon. Joseph Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: two sisters, Linda D. Bolden of Columbia, MD and Leslie J. Bolden of Atlanta, GA; four brothers, Robert R. Bolden of Rembert, Leon R. Bolden (Debra) and Warren Bolden (Verna), all of Columbia, MD, Reggie L. Bolden, Sr. (Cynthia) of Jacksonville, AR; one aunt, Carrie Dawson and a grand aunt, Angeline Loney, both of Dalzell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2016 – 1:00 p. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, South Carolina, with the Rev. E. L. Sanders, officiating and the Rev. Richard Addison, eulogist. The family is receiving friends and relatives at the home of Johnnie and Lisa Benjamin, 3985 Dodgen Hill Road, Dalzell.
