Wesley “Ray” Kind, Sr., 58, transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Born in Sumter County on March 11, 1958, he was the son of Henry and Sarah Kind, Sr. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. He graduated from Hill Crest High School, Class of 1977. He was born and reared in a Christian home and accepted God as his personal Savior at a young age. He was baptized at St. Paul AME Church – Shaw. He was a member of Spring Hill A. M. E. Church, Summerton. Brother Kind was the caterer for the Seventh Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Shirley Guess Parker-Kind; a caring mother-in-law, Rosa Guess Wendler; four sons, Wesley (Lanice) Kind, Jr. and Kevin (Patricia) Thomas, of Westchester, NY, Clifton Darrell (Theresa) Parker of Summerville, Lionel Dondi (Kammi) Parker of Charlotte, NC; one daughter, Deitra Parker (Alan) Jones of Raleight, NC; four sisters; three brothers; one aunt; three uncles; fourteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a heavenly host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017, 11:00 a. m., from the St. Paul A. M. E. Church-Shaw, 1495 North Saint Paul Church Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Eric R. Dent, pastor, Bishop Samuel L. Green, Sr., Presiding Prelate of the Seventh Episcopal District, eulogist, assisted by Presiding Elder Rev. Joseph Postell, Presiding Elder Rev. Eddie Gadson, Jr. and the Rev. Emma Mellerson, pastor or Spring Hill A. M. E. Church, Summerton. Family and friends will be received at the home which he shared with his loving wife, 1021 Sea Brook Road, Sumter. A Wake Service will be held Friday, 6:00 p. m. – 8:00 p. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. The Remains will be placed in the church at 9:00 a. m. to 10:45 a. m. for viewing. The procession will leave from the home at 10:20 a. m. Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be family and friends. Internment will be in the Spring Hill A. M. E. Church Cemetery, 4309 Bill Davis Road, Summerton .
