Willie Martin, Sr.
Jun 11, 1932 to Mar 20, 2017

On Monday, March 20, 2017, surrounded by his family, Willie Martin, Sr., 84, took the wings of the morning and answered the call from the Almighty and Sovereign God to come home at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Born June 11, 1932 in Dalzell, Willie and his three brothers and one sister were raised by his mother, the late Aline Martin. As a child Willie, who was affectionately known as J. W. was taught to honor God and his elders. Willie married the love of his life, Sallie Mae Nathaniel on June 20, 1953. To this union three children were born and seven children were raised. Determined to expose their family to the finer things in life, they migrated to New York. For many years New York was home for the Martin Family. The family church was The Pentecostal House of Prayer, where Willie was ordained and served as a Deacon for over 40 years. In 1996, Willie and his wife returned to Sumter to spend their golden years closer to their place of their origin. After much prayer and consideration he found his new church home, Grace Cathedral, where he served proudly as an usher and greeter until his health began to fail him. He leaves to cherish his legacy: his children, Willie (Martina) Martin, Jr. of East Stroudsburg, PA, Perry (Brenda) Martin of St. Albans, NY, Talitha Martin Harrison of Sumter, Stacey (Estee) Bullock of Bensalem, PA, Alexis Demore of Sumter, Arnell Martin of Port St. Lucie, FLA, Ashley Martin of Sumter; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Homegoing Services will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 12:00 noon from the Grace Cathedral Ministries, 60 Oswego Highway, Sumter, with the Rev. Anthony Gibson, officiating, eulogist. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the family home, 15 Malibu Street, Sumter. A wake service will be held Friday, 5:00 7:00 p. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m. The procession will leave from the home at 11:30 a. m. Floral bearers and Pall bearer will be friends of the family. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 North Guignard Drive, Sumter.
