Cole B. “Sonny Boy” Jenkins, 84, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at his residence. Born December 5, 1932, in Sumter County, he was the second child of the late Cornelius and Alga Pearson Jenkins. He attended the public schools of Sumter County. Cole worked for Williams Furniture Factory until he decided to move to New York in 1953, where he worked until he retired in 1993 and moved back home to Sumter County. He was married to Ellanora (Girlie) Dixon. They had five children. Later he met and married his current wife of 46 1/2 years, Carmen Jean, and had one daughter. He leaves to mourn his memories: his wife, Carmen Jean; two daughters, Loretta Jenkins-Valencia of Atlanta, GA, Diane (Thomas) Hawley of the Bronx, NY; his grand, great grand and great, great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; his first cousin, which was like a brother, Marion (Eliza Joyce) Pearson; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017, 11 a. m. from the Antioch United Methodist Church, 4040 Dubose Siding Road, Sumter , with the Rev. Raymond Cook, pastor, eulogist, Elder J. Elbert Williams, presiding. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 231 North Wise Drive, Sumter. A wake service will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. today at John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10 a. m. The procession will leave at 10:20 a. m. from the home. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park, Wise Drive, Sumter.
