Alma Murray

Alma Murray, 89, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 19, 2018 in Sumter surrounded by love. Born November 10, 1928, in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Maggie Hampton and Thomas Weston. Alma was educated in the Sumter school system and continued her education in the City of New York. “Moa”, as she was affectionately known, worked at Harlem Hospital Medical Center as a dietitian where she retired from the 1199 Health and Hospitals Union. Alma fell in love and married Benjamin Williams. From that union came three children, Rosalie Williams, Clara Byas and Benjamin Williams, Jr. She later met and married Rudolph Murray. Alma was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star – SC Chapter, where she served faithfully on the board. Moa leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Clara; one brother, Roland Weston; four sisters, Lillian Williams, Saundra Flood, Mae Katherine Jones, Ruth Grayton; three grandsons; five granddaughters; her caregivers, Shanaya Sykes (great grandchild), Antwanetta Hardy and Toni Hardy; a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, family and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of her daughter, 4455 Pond Loop Road, Sumter. Homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 - 2 p. m. from Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Wall Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Larry C. Weston, Pastor, eulogist.
