Laura Johnson
Oct 27, 1956 to Jan 21, 2010

Laura Johnson, 53, departed this earthly life on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.

Born October 27, 1956, in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Johnny Johnson and Lue Emma Temoney Johnson.

Laura attended the public schools of Sumter County School District II, graduating from Maywood High School in 1976. She also attended the Vocational Center and Central Carolina (formerly known as Sumter Area Technical College), where she received her certification as a Nursing Assistant.

Laura loved taking care of people and it was her greatest joy. She took great pride in being a servant and this love was exemplified in her service at the National Health Care of Sumter, where she worked faithfully for 15 years. She was awarded "CNA of the Year" on numerous occasions. She loved to talk to her patients . . . there was never a dull moment when Laura was around. She would put the needs of others before herself without a second thought or complaint. Helping others was her joy and ministry. She retired from this labor of love in 2009.

Laura grew up in Beulah AME Church, where she joined and accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. Working in the health care system was both a rewarding and challenging career that included working on many weekends, but she always made time for church. Laura was a faithful member of the Women’s Missionary Society, Ladies’ Club, Senior Usher Board and the Lay Organization. She was especially known for her support and competitive spirit in the Family and Friends Day Program. As Captain, she led her family to winning "Family of the Year" on many, many occasions. She was also recognized as the "2009 Mother of the Year" by the Ladies Club.

She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Lora Ann Johnson (Elder Manwello) Brown of Sumter; one brother, Willie Johnson; four sisters, Evelena, Teresa and Lether Mae Johnson of the home, and Johnnie Mae Stukes, all of Sumter; two grandchildren, Miracle Faith and Emmanuel D. Brown, of Sumter; her grandmother, Vermelle McCauley Temoney of Sumter; one niece, Pearlie M.
