Elizabeth V. “Bess” Rembert, 93, widow of Herman E. Rembert, Sr., entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 14, 2018 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Born on January 3, 1925, in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Lennie Vaughn, Sr. and Eliza Sinkler Vaughn. Elizabeth attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Lincoln High School. She furthered her education at Morris College, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree. She was employed by the Sumter County School District as a social worker and teacher’s aide for over 25 years until her retirement. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined Antioch United Methodist Church. After matrimony on June 8, 1947, she joined her husband at Shepherd United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served on the Stewardess Board, United Methodist Women and as the church finance secretary. She was also active in the community as a member of the Reach Out Club, Willing Workers and the Broad Street Burial League. She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Nevetta H. Rembert; one son, Kelvin L. Rembert of Sumter; one honorary son, Timothy (Latisha) Martin; one honorary daughter, Betty Durant of Sumter; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Viola Moses of Sumter; one brother, Herbert (Hattie) Vaughn of Roselle, NJ; two sisters-in-law; a hosts of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and special caregivers. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 1230 South Pike East, Lot 124, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2018 - 12 noon from the Shepherd United Methodist Church, 2210 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Raymond Cook, pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m. The funeral procession will leave from the home at 11:20 a. m. Burial will be in White’s Cemetery, Airport Road, Sumter. These services have been entrusted to the Management and Staff of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter.
