Sarah Louise Robinson

Sarah Louise Robinson, 88, departed this earthly life on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Sumter East Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sumter. Born December 27, 1921, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late James H. Robinson, Sr. and Alice Alston Robinson.


During her youth, she attended the High Hill A. M. E. Church, Dalzell. She later joined the Mount Pisgah A. M. E. Church, where she served faithfully in several capacities over her lifetime most notably as a member of Stewardess Board # 2.

Ms. Robinson is an alumnus of Lincoln High School and Morris College. She taught elementary school for over thirty years in the Lee County Public Schools before finishing her teaching career at the former Dennis High School, Bishopville. She touched the lives of hundreds of young people, and even after being retired for almost thirty years, she was still encountering former students who expressed both appreciation and love for her as a former educator. She served as a role model for her nieces, four of whom chose teaching as a career.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two nephews, James F. Robinson (Viola) of Fort Washington, MD, and Vernon Robinson of Philadelphia, PA; seven nieces, Sarah H. Johnson of Rock Hill, Alice H. Washington of Georgetown, Ollie M. Harvin and Eleanor R. Goss, both of Sumter, Ruth Lancaster of Wedgefield, Virginia R. Brooker and Karen R. Watson, both of Philadelphia, PA; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Robinson of Sumter; many grand nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, James H., Augustus, Alphonso, Benjamin F. and Thomas Robinson; her sister, Bessie R. Harvin; two nieces, and three nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Thursday, March 18, 2010 from the Mt. Pisgah A. M. E. Church, 217 West Bartlette Street, Sumter with Rev. Dr. Betty Deas Clark, pastor, eulogist.


The family will receive friends at the home of her niece, Ollie M. Harvin 531 Lynam Road, Sumter.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 12:00 p. m.

The Funeral procession will leave from the home of her niece at 12:30 p. m.

Flower bearers will be Stewardess of Mt. Pisgah A. M. E. Church.

Pall bearers will be nephews and friends.

Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, Sumter.
