SGT Kelvin Wakeen Bethea, 29, was called by God into eternal rest on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at his home. Born November 22, 1980, in Sumter County, he was a son of Tommy and Sandra Dingle Bethea.
He attended Life Changing Christian Center of Sumter. Kelvin was a 1998 graduate of Sumter High School where he served as a dedicated member of the Sumter High School Show Choir. He was honored as an Who’s Who Among American High School students. After graduation, Kelvin joined the United States Marine’s Corp, where he served four years. Kelvin continued to serve his country by joining the Manning Chapter National Guard Reserves where he remained active until he retired in 2009.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories; his parents, Tommy and Sandra Bethea of the home; two brothers, Micheal (Felicia) Bethea of Hinesville, GA and Antione Bethea of Sumter; his maternal grand parents, Edward and Elouise Dingle and paternal grandmother, Rosa Mae Bethea, all of Sumter; a special cousin, he called his second mom, Vanessa Burgess; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his uncle, Clinton Robinson, paternal grandfather, James W. Bethea, and maternal great grand parents, Mary Jane Robinson and Leroy Robinson.
The family will receive friends at his home 360 Eugene Street, Sumter.
The Remains will be placed in the church closed at 1:00 p. m.
The funeral procession will leave from the home at 1:15 p. m.
Flower bearers will be family and friends.
Pall bearers will be United States National Guard.
Burial will be in the Sandy Grove United Methodist Church Yard Cemetery, Lamar.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m., Wednesday, April 21, 2010 from the Life Changing Christian Center at West Inn Community Church, 101 South Salem Avenue, Sumter, with Pastor Michael A. Walters, Sr., pastor, eulogist, assisted by Evangelist Eulinda Pinckney.
