Polk Lee "Peter" Williams, Sr., 55, husband of Mabelle Washington Williams, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at his home in Dalzell.
Born June 3, 1954, in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Grant Williams, Sr. and Ida Pearl Waiters Williams.
Mr. Williams was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1973 graduate of Hillcrest High School, Dalzell. He accepted Christ as his personal savior and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Rembert. He was also a member of Rembert Masonic Lodge # 1.
After graduating from high school, he went to work for Lance Food Corporation in Charlotte, NC. Shortly after he returned home to work for E I Dupont, Lugoff from which he retired in 2005 after over 30 years of service. Upon his retirement he enjoyed working on his farm and garden, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was united in marriage to Mabelle Washington Williams and to this union five children were born.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife of 31 years, Mabelle Washington Williams; five children, Timothy Alexander (Tracy) Williams of the home, LaToya (Cecil) Williams Smith of Rockledge, FLA, Polk Lee Williams, Jr. of the home, LaTonya Williams of Richmond, VA and James Grant Williams of Greensboro, NC; four sisters, Mary Harden of Charlotte, NC, Florence (Bernard) Gillis and Dorothy Williams, both of Sumter, Luetilda Ann (Tommie) Canty of Newport News, VA; one brother, Eugene (Betty) Williams of Charlotte, NC; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Williams and Vicki Williams; an aunt, Celia W. Gill of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Jamisa T. Williams, Cardell L. King, Leighton W. Smith, and DeMariye’ D. Mickens; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Four brothers preceded him in death Johnny Williams, Grant Williams, Jr., James Grant, and George Williams, Sr.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m., Wednesday, April 21, 2010 from the Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, 2738 Woodrow Road (Highway 441), Woodrow, with Rev. Timothy A. Johnson, Sr., pastor, eulogist, assisted by Rev. Anthony Taylor.
The family will received friends at the family home 6375 Hugh Ryan Road, Dalzell.
The Remains will be placed in the church at 1:00 p. m.
The funeral procession will leave from the family home at 1:20 p. m.
Floral Bearers and Pall Bearers will be Family and Friends.
Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Sumter.
