Marshall "March" Shaw, 74, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter. Born March 3, 1936, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Ben and Lottie Muldrow Shaw.


He attended the public schools of Sumter County. During his enriched life, before and after retirement, he was a diligent worker. He was also a contractor for Tunnel Construction in Newark, NJ from 1965 until 1985. In 1986, he returned to Sumter County, where he met and married his loving wife, Luvina Wilson Shaw. He attended St. Rest Holiness Church and Quinn Chapel A. M. E. Church.


He leaves to cherish his memories; a devoted wife, Luvina Wilson Shaw; three sisters, Sarah Lucky of Philadelphia, PA, Wilhelmenia (Willie) Billups, and Betty Prescott, both of Sumter; three children, Marshall Shaw, Jr. of Holly Hill, Amelia Shaw and Tony Shaw, both of New York, NY; five sisters-in-law, Lillie Mae Shaw and Jannie (Levan) Singleton, both of Sumter, Mary Lowery, Evelyn (Melvin) Plowden, and Deborah (Robert) Wheeler, all of Mayesville; two brothers-in-law, Herbert Wilson of Tennessee and James Wilson of Mayesville; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and eight siblings, Lang Shaw, Sonny Shaw, Sr., Maggie Mae "Cooley" McCoy, James "Brother" Shaw, Sr., Isaac "Elder" Shaw, Jacob "Preacher" Shaw, Sr., Evelyn "Cissy" Wilkes, and Helen Conyers.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, May 1, 2010 from the St. Rest Holiness Church, 360 East Sumter Street, Mayesville with Bishop Tommie Doe, pastor, eulogist, assisted by Elder Lillie Witherspoon, presiding, and Minister Thomasina Moses.

The family will receive friends at the home 126 Willow Street, Mayesville.

The Remains will be placed in the church at noon.

The funeral cortege will leave from the home at 12:15 p. m.

Floral bearers will be nieces, family and friends.

Pall bearers will be nephews, family and friends.

Burial will be in the Mayesville Cemetery, Mayesville.
