Gladys Peterson Cesar, 57, heard the voice of her shepherd Jesus Christ calling her home on Thursday, May 13, 2010 and she answered his call at Tuomey Health Care System, Sumter. During her life span of 57 years, she expressed her gladness to family, friends, acquaintances and even strangers.
Gladys was born on August 29, 1952 to the late Manning Michael Peterson and Marie Wells Peterson in Lee County (Mayesville) as the youngest of the family (7th child). She attended the public school of Lee County and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School, Class of 1970. Upon graduation, she enlisted in the United States Army and married the late Willie Junior Cesar.
Since an early age, Gladys was a member of Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church, where she assisted the church in anything she could do to uplift the Word of God.
Gladys used the skills she obtained from her active enrollment in the Army and the work ethics instilled in her through her parents to work at various jobs for over 20 years. But, the job she took much pride in was taking care of her mother Marie and brother Ernest. Family and friends knew how fussy she was over every detail and how slow she was in getting thing done. This was how Gladys expressed her love. She cared enough to make sure things were done in the right and particular way. Everything that Gladys did was completed with a smile, which her family and friends appreciated.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her brothers, Thomas “Joe Lewis” (Ella Mae) Peterson, and Ernest “Nine” Peterson, both of Mayesville; two caring nieces, Kherissa (Michael) Morant and Rosa Mae Peterson, both of Sumter; two special nephews, Manning “June” Peterson, Jr. and Frankie “Pop” (Adrienne) Peterson; two aunts, Evelyn C. (Ralph) Whitehead of Suitland, MD and Bessie (Sonny) Davis of Sumter; two uncles, Felix Peterson of Bishopville and Robert C. Wells of Elliott; six sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a very special friend, Jeanette Mickens; a host of other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
