Mary “Coot” DeGraffenreid, 74, wife of Samuel DeGraffenreid, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter. Born in Lee County on June 26, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Josephine Toney and Addin and Patience Brown.
She was educated in the public schools of Lee County.
Mary, affectionately known as “Coot” or “Ninnie, was a very warm hearted, humble, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a person who loved everyone, and it was displayed through her warm embrace and smile.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: a loving and devoted husband, Samuel DeGraffenreid of the home; a daughter, Linda (Marvin) July of Jersey City, NJ; a son, Christian DeGraffenreid of Pennsylvania; one grandson, Darrieus Walker of Jersey City, NJ; a special niece, Sheila (James) Smalls of Jersey City, NJ; six sisters, Willima Williams and Essie (Charlie) Isaac, both of Sumter, Bertha Scarborough of Bishopville, Sue Mae Wells of Mayesville, Mary (James) Toney of Coatsville, PA, Mary Wilson of Washington, DC; four brothers, Walter McClary of New York, Johnnie Wilson of Jersey City, NJ, Willie (Janie) Moses of Sumter, Robert Wilson of Mayesville; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by six siblings, Josie Mae Anderson, Pauline Cooper, George Anderson, Jr., Roosevelt Anderson, George Williams and Zachary Wilson.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p. m., Wednesday, August 4, 2010 from the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with Rev. Alvin Webb, officiating, eulogist, assisted by Rev. Frank Williams, Jr.
The family will receive friends at the home 3980 3rd Avenue, Mayesville.
The funeral procession will leave from the home at 2:20 p. m.
Floral Bearers and Pall Bearers will be Family and Friends.
Burial will be in the Mayesville Cemetery, Mayesville.
