Maggie Lee Ramsey Hardy

Maggie Lee Ramsey Hardy, 67, wife of Edward Hardy,  entered into eternal rest on  Monday,  August 2, 2010   at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter, after a brief illness.
Born  June 28, 1943,  in Sumter County,  she was a daughter of the late Sam Ramsey, Sr. and Betsy Ann Wright Ramsey.
During her youth she attended Wayman Chapel A. M. E. Church.  She received her formal education from the public schools of Sumter County.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Edward Hardy on April 20, 1963. Edward and Maggie later moved to Long Island, New York, where they resided for 47 years.  While residing in New York, she was a member of Zion Gospel Church of Long Island, New York.  In 2004, they relocated to Sumter.

Maggie was a very kind person.  During her life time, she touched the hearts of many people.  When

ever you needed a helping hand, she was always there with a loving spirit willing to help. 

Maggie was a loving wife, mother and a devoted home maker.  She was also a caring and loved  grandmother, aunt, sister and friend to all.

Precious memories will be cherished by her loving husband, Edward Hardy of the home; two daughters, Gloria Jean (Bishop Dr. Curtis) Redmon of Copiague, N. Y. and Priscilla Ann Hardy of Amityville, N. Y.; two sons, Edward (Tamia) Hardy, Jr. of Wyandanch, N. Y. and Kelvin (Sharica) Hardy of Harrisburg, PA;  one brother, Sam (Annie) Ramsey, Jr. of Sumter;  four sisters, Sarah Mae Lewis,  Rosa Ann White of Detroit, MI,  Rosa Lee (Robert) Dennis and Lou Ethel Diggs, both of Sumter;  seven sisters-in-law, Geneva Singleton,  Margaret Maple, Evola Gilbert, Pamela Hardy, all of Wedgefield, Mary Marine of Baltimore, MD, Katherine (Perry) James and Edith Ramsey, both of Sumter;  three brothers-in-law, Willie (Chris) Hardy, Calvin (Josephine) Hardy,  Ross Hardy, all of Wedgefield;  one aunt, Martha (William) Mack of Brooklyn, N. Y.; one uncle, Willie Wright of Sumter; seventeen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a  host of  nieces, nephews, other relatives and beloved friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Hardy; a sister, DianeLighty and three brothers, Earl, Gene and Benjamin “Big Boy” Ramsey.


 Funeral services  will  be  held 11:00 A. M.,  Saturday,  August 7, 2010  from  the  Wayman  Chapel A. M. E. Church, 160 North Kings Highway, Sumter,  with Reverend Laddie N. Howard,  pastor,  eulogist, assisted by Rev. Charlie Howard, Pastor Ricky Mickens and Minister Christal Redmon.

The family will receive friends at the home 40 James Haskell Road, Wedgefield.

A Wake Service will be held 6:00 – 7:00 P. M., Friday in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, 821 North Main Street, Sumter.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 A. M.

The  funeral  cortege  will leave  from  the  home at 10:30 A. M.

Floral Bearers  will be nieces and friends of the family.

Pall Bearers will be nephews and friends of the family.

Burial will be in the Wayman Chapel A. M. E. Church Yard Cemetery, Sumter.
