Deacon Willie Sessions, Jr.
Feb 09, 1927 to Aug 03, 2010

Deacon Willie Sessions, Jr., 83, husband of Leola Anderson Sessions, departed this earthly life on  Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at his home.  Born in Sumter County on February 9, 1927,  he was a son of the late Willie Sessions, Sr.  and Cornelia Ross Williams.

We will forever cherish his fond memories, dedication to his church, family, community and mankind.  He traveled the nation for 40 years as a truck driver, as he would say  “to keep the fire burning” and  was appreciative of the beautiful places he visited and wonderful people he was fortunate enough to meet.  He was a Salterstown Community leader in helping to build a community center and mentoring youth in the community.  He served as a Boy Scout Master, helping to develop leadership in the youth through community service, sports and life skills.  As a Deacon at Cedar Grove Missionary Church for over 40 years, he helped build three of Cedar Grove Missionary Church structures on the current property over the years of the church existence.  He served on the senior choir, male choir, a trustee, and assistant to senior deacon.  He served in the United States Army during World War II.

Deacon Sessions was married to his beautiful and lovely wife, Leola Anderson Sessions for over 51 years. He encouraged his children to be positive and productive adults, community oriented, and spiritual.  His contributions to family, community, and country are noteworthy, although not moralized in the history books of South Carolina or the United States, they certainly are ingrained in the hearts and minds of all that came to know him.

He was a dedicated and loving husband to Mrs. Leola A. Sessions; a loving father to Sylvia Tisdale (Robert),  Bernice Lide (Ralph),  Willie (Sandy),  Sandra,  Sam (Jacquelyn), Ronald (Elsie), and Donald Sessions;  thirteen grandchildren;  thirteen great grandchildren;  two great-great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Lucille Battle;  sister, Hattie Sessions;  daughter-in-law, Robin Anderson;  sisters-in-law, Louise Sessions, Estelle China, Frances Anderson and Claudette Anderson;  brothers-in-law, Raymond Anderson and Bobby Anderson;   a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Stanley Anderson.

Deacon Sessions was a pillar of this earthly life.  The community was an extension of his family.  He was blessed with patience, song in his mouth, love, joy and the Holy Spirit.
