Thomasina James Grant

Thomasina James Grant, 77,   widow of David Grant, departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest  on  Monday,  August 23, 2010   at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born  in Sumter County on August 3, 1933,    she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel “Nonk” and Bessie Council Sanders James.

She received her education from the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Morris High School, Bronx, New York.  She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the Usher Board,  Sunday School and sang  on the choir.  She was also a member of the Twelve Tribes of Israel and the Senior Center of Rembert., 

She leaves to cherish precious memories: her loving daughter, Letitia “Tracie” Grant of the home;  two devoted sons, Lionel “Lonnie” Grant of Rembert and Jesse (Debra) Grant of Moore;  eight grandchildren,  Shemeek,  Jamal,  Katon, Rodney “Bo”, Xan (Donna), Devon, and Xylan;  three great grandchildren;  one great-great grandchild;  two sisters, Wihelmenia Smiling of Rembert and Eva Mildred Fleming of Bronx, N. Y.;  a host of nieces, nephews,  cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Grant;  two sons, Gregory “Bunny” and Ricky;  two brothers, Joe James and Charles “Beau” Sanders;  five sisters, Geneva Lily, Caroline James,  Barbara James, Frances Prioleau, Daisy Davenport; and a host of other children brought up in the home.

Funeral  services  will  be  held 2:00 P. M.,   Saturday,  August 28, 2010  from   the  Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, 7355 Camden Highway, Rembert,  with Reverend Anthony Taylor,  pastor,  eulogist, assisted by Rev. Willie Dennis.

The family will receive friends at the home 5625 Dais Road, Rembert.

Viewing will take place Friday from 2:00 – 7:00  P. M. in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, 821 North Main Street, Sumter.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 1:00 P. M.

The  funeral  cortege  will leave  from  the  home at 1:30 P. M.

Floral Bearers  and Pall Bearers will be friends of the family..

Burial will be in the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Rembert
