Jerome Cooper

Jerome “Sonny Boy” Cooper, 64,  entered into eternal life  on  Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.   Born in Lee County on March 20, 1946, he was a son of the late Robert Cooper and Maggie Toney Cooper.

Jerome attended Eastside High School, Patterson, NJ.  He was employed with Universal Cooperation for sixteen years.  Later, Mr. Cooper moved to Bishopville and worked for Lee County School District for 15 years as a transportation specialist.  Mr. Cooper received several certificates of recognition: Certificates of Appreciation for his faithful service to the State of South Carolina on June 6, 2008; Certificate of Merit from South Carolina Public Schools 2007-2008; and Certificate of Road Success from South Carolina Public School 2007-2008.  He was the business owner of I-20 Party Place, Bishopville.  “Sonny Boy”, as he was affectionately called, was well known in the community as a gracious individual and will be remembered for his many accomplishments.

Jerome was married to the late Delores Cooper for 26 years.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: two daughters, Kimberly Headd and Katrice Goodwin of Columbia; a son, Jerome P. Cooper of Atlanta, GA;  a son-in-law, Antonio Goodwin of Columbia;  three grandchildren, N’Dea Headd, Ana Goodwin and Samuel Goodwin of Columbia;  his ex-wife, Helen Cooper of Columbia;  five sisters, Dorothy Andrews of Bishopville,  Margaret “Polly” Lewis of Sumter,  Deanna Lovely of Willingboro, NJ,  Ruth Micken and Ruby Kersey, both of Patterson, NJ;  two brothers, Samuel Cooper of Columbia  and Robert Cooper, Jr. of Patterson, NJ;  a  host of  nieces,  nephews,  other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dianna Valentine and one brother, Kenneth Cooper.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Monday, August 30, 2010 from the  St. Mark Baptist  Church, 510 Manville Wisacky Road, Bishopville, with Reverend Darren P. Dixon, pastor, eulogist.

The family will receive friend at the home of his daughter, Katrice Goodwin,  108 Grafton Lane, Lexington.

The funeral procession will leave from Williams Funeral Home, Inc. 821 North Main Street, Sumter  at 12:20 p. m.

Floral bearers will be Teresa Bracey, Janice Johnson, N’Dea Headd and Janice Lovely.

Pall bearers will be Jerome P. Cooper, Antonio Goodwin, Samuel Cooper and Henry Lawson.

Burial will be  in the St. Mark Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Bishopville.
