Mitchell (Bubba) Shannon, 58, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on  Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.  Born November 5, 1952 in Darlington, he was the son of the late Clinton and Ruth Quick Shannon.

Mitch received his education in the public schools of Sumter County.  He worked for Shaw Lumber Company and the South Carolina Department of  Transportation.  He was baptized into the Church of Christ at an early age.

He leaves to cherish his memories;  two daughters, Michelle (Chris) McKnight of Sumter, Tracey (Kelvin) McClain of Rembert;  four stepdaughters, Patricia Kennedy of Philadelphia, PA, Christine (Terry) Parks of Moncks Corner, Charlotte Singletary, Priscilla (Bryant) Brown, all of Sumter;  two stepsons, Prince and Alexander Singletary, both of Sumter;  one granddaughter, Martika Allen;  two step granddaughters he reared, Jennifer and Jessica Burgess of Sumter;  seven grandsons, Marquis (Mont’e) Allen,  Christopher (Deont’e) McKnight, Tyreek McKnight and Tyreese (Fat Man) McKnight, all of Sumter,  Markeist Wilson, Cameron McClain and Jahbarie Robinson, all of Rembert;  one great granddaughter, Martiona (Lil Berta) Fullwood: three brothers, Willie (Hattie) Shannon, Robert (Rachael) Shannon, Charles (Elizabeth) Shannon, all  of Sumter;  seven sisters, Ruby Lee (Samuel) James,  Stella (Marvin) Perrear, Vermell Shannon, Nancy (Roosevelt) Brown, Carolyn (Edward) Alston, all of Sumter, Frances (Jimmy) Brunson of Virginia;  Ruth Ann (Wyley) Bullock of Richmond, VA; two uncles, Rev. Evine Shannon and Nathaniel Shannon; two special friends, Annie Mae Singletary of Sumter,  Essie Mae Kennedy of Philadelphia, PA;  a special niece, Adrianna (Adrianna Street) Bradley; a special friend who was like a brother, Bill (Dollar Bill) Anthony of Sumter;  a host of   nieces, nephews, cousins,  other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jessie Shannon and David Shannon; one sister, Mable Shannon Julius and two aunts, Alene Shannon and Louise Martha Shannon.

Funeral  services will be  held 3:00 p. m.,  Tuesday,  March 22, 2011  from  the   Church of Christ, Sandy Grove Church Road,  Lamar,   with  the Bro. Sylvester McCray,  officiating, eulogist, assisted by  Brother Wesley Solomon, Brother Allen Jefferson, and Brother Richard McQuillar.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Michelle Shannon McKnight, 2666 McCray Mill Road, Sumter.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 2:00 p. m.

The funeral procession will leave from the home of his daughter at 2:00 p. m.

Floral bearers and  Pall bearers will be friends of the family.

Interment will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, Sumter.
