Geraldine Nelson Murray Samuel, 65, wife of Raymond Samuel, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg. Born in Sumter County on July 16, 1945, she was the daughter of Frizeal Hayward Nelson and the late Jessie Nelson, Sr.
Geraldine attended Lincoln High School, Sumter. She was employed at Sumter Crescent Tool after many years of service, she left and was presently employed with Sumter School District II as a bus driver, where she received several awards.
“Momma Gerald”, as she was affectionately called, accepted Christ into her life and joined Fair Heaven Baptist Church, Manning, where she served as a faithful servant, Sunday School Superintendent and Deaconess.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her caring and faithful husband, Raymond Samuel; three daughters, Gwendolyn (Ralph) M. Holmes, Linda (Emanuel) M. Davis, Stacey (Martin) M. Washington; three sons, Larry (Rhonda) Murray of Huffman, TX, Patrick (Betty) Murray, Jeffery (Sabrina) Murray of Sugarland, TX; five brothers, Gary Nelson, Elvis (Julia) Nelson, Peter (Lucille) Nelson, Stanley Nelson, all of Sumter, Ronnie Hayward of Toms River, N. J; .three sisters, Geneva McCoy, Peggy Nelson, Lillie Nelson, all of Sumter; nineteen grandchildren; one great grand child, Montae Murray; a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorlien Balls; two brothers, John and Jessie Nelson; her maternal grandparents, John W. Hayward, Geneva Hayward and one brother-in-law, Willie McCoy
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Wednesday, July 13, 2011 from the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Alcolu, with the Rev. Dennis Brock, pastor, the Rev. Emanuel Davis, presiding, the Rev. Henry O. Blackwell, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Larry Davis, Rev. Bennie McCants, Rev. Robert E. Galloway and Evangelist Betty Nesbitt.
The family will receive friends at the home 1351 Illery Road, Sumter.
The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m.
The funeral procession will leave from the home at 11:20 a. m.
Floral bearers and pall bearers will be bus drivers of Sumter School District II.
Interment will be in the Fair Heaven Baptist Church Cemetery, Manning.
