Mary Chatmon

Mary Chatmon, 91,  widow of James William Chatmon,  departed this earthly life  on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Tuomey Health Care System, Sumter.  Born June 8, 1920 in Sumter County,  she was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen Young Sanders.

Mrs. Chatmon received Christ at an early age and became a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Rembert until her death.  She was a faithful member and she loved her church.  She was  member of the Usher Board, Church Choir and sang with a church group called, “The Love Special”.  She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

She was a devoted wife to the late husband,  James William Chatmon,  a loving and caring mother to her eight children,  Daisy Martin of Brooklyn,  N. Y.,  Mary L. Davis and husband, Reverend Eddie Davis of Jackson, MS,  Gloria Chatmon of Brooklyn, N. Y., Geraldine and husband, Ralph Kressel of McDonough, GA,  Jennie Chatmon of Sumter, Ann C. Linder of College Park, GA,  Walter J. Chatmon of Rembert,  Etta J. Chatmon of Jonesboro, GA and  her charming grandchildren, great grand children, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She also leaves to  mourn two sisters, Evelyn McCleod of Rembert and Edna Wilson of Bolden, N. C.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p. m., Sunday,  August 28, 2011 from the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church,  7355 Camden Highway (Highway 521 North) Rembert with the Rev. Anthony Taylor,  Pastor,  eulogist,  assisted by the  Rev. Willie Dennis, Rev. Edward Sanders, and Rev. Ricky Mickens.

The family will receive friends at her home 4440 Furman Field Road, Rembert.

A wake service will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p. m., Saturday from the Williams Funeral Home, Inc.  821 North Main Street, Sumter.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 2:00 p. m.

The funeral procession will leave from the home at 2:30 p. m.

Floral bearers nieces and friends of the family.

 Pall bearers will be grandsons and  friends of the family.

Burial will be in the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
