Melvin Robinson

Brother Melvin Robinson, 54,  departed this life on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the home of his sister.  Born in Sumter County on December 4, 1956,  he was the son of the late Bro. Henry Robinson, Sr. and Sis. Essie Mae Wilson Robinson.

Melvin was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. He worked as a forklift operator at Exide Battery Company of Sumter.  He also worked as a Cable Technician at Briggs Construction Company and Global Construction Company in Sumter.  He like football and car racing.

As a teenager, he was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and attended church as a youth with his parents and his family both in Hartsville and Lynchburg locations.

Preceding him to the grave were his parents, Bro. Henry and Sis. Essie Mae Robinson;  three sisters, and three brothers.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his wife, Betty Burgess Robinson of Sumter; one son, Jermel Anthony Robinson; one daughter, Lateshia Renay Robinson of Sumter; two brothers, Bro. Corneal Robinson of Sumter, Leroy (Fannie) Robinson of Rembert; five sisters, Ella Mae Robinson, Minnie Robinson, Elizabeth R. Addison, Catherine Robinson and Rebecca Robinson, all of Sumter;  an adopted sister, Sabrina Sharp of Atlanta, GA; two adopted brothers, Bryan McLeod and Kenny (Eartha) Turner, both of Sumter; two grandchildren, Lataeja Simya Robinson and Dream Serenity Robinson of Sumter;  his mother-in-law, Frances Abram of Sumter;  six brothers-in-law, Thomas Abram, Ronnie Abram, Joseph Abram, Silas (Connie) Abram, all of Sumter, Michael (Betty) Abram of Wilmington, NC and David Whaley of Charleston;  two additional sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Abram and Edith Burgess of Sumter; a special aunt, Nellie Burgess of Sumter;  a special uncle, James (Kim) Wilson and two additional uncles, all of New Jersey;  three aunts of New Jersey;  two aunts of Sumter;  two special aunts, Mary Lee Brown of Washington, DC and Bertha McDuffie of Sumter;  one of many special friends, Danny Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p. m., Saturday,  October 1, 2011 from The Church in the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc.,  2449 Calvary Road, Hartsville with Bishop Joe Tisdale, officiating,  eulogist, assisted by Rev. Frank Williams, Jr.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister,  Minnie Robinson  3145 North Main Street,  Sumter.

The funeral procession will leave from the home at 2:00 p. m.

Floral bearers will be Sisterhood.   Pall bearers will be Friends and Brotherhood.

Burial will be in the Church In The Lord Jesus Christ of The Apostolic Faith, Inc. Hartsville Cemetery, Hartsville.
