Rufus Lee Goodman

Rufus Lee Goodman, 49, life’s journey ended on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.  Born on July 11, 1962  in Sumter County, he was the son of  the late Segars and Earline Grant Goodman.

Rufus attended the public schools of Sumter County.  He was well loved by all who knew him.  He did all he could to help others.  Rufus enjoyed working with his hands in fixing on cars and lawn mowers.  He was a small engine mechanic.  He was employed with H. C. Edens and Son’s Farm for 20 years until his health failed. 

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving wife,  Melissa Johnson Goodman of 13 years;  two daughters, Felicia (Jerome) Ortiz and Ebony Greene, both of Dalzell;  three sons, Justin Greene of Charleston, Bryan and Ryan Greene of the home;  three grandchildren,  Kiara Harrison,  Caiden Yates, Madisyn Yates, all of Dalzell;  five brothers,  Freddie (Barbara) Goodman, James (Janie) Goodman, both of Dalzell,  Sam (Nancy) Goodman and Carl (Beulah) Goodman, both of Rembert;  John Goodman of  Sumter;  two sisters,  Rebecca (Arthur) Porter and Lillie Ann Goodman, both of Dalzell; three uncles,  Leroy Grant  and Phillip Simmons, both of Sumter,  James Grant of Newark, N. J.;  two aunts, Mildred Grant of Newark, N. J. and Rovena Grant of Sumter;  four brothers-in-law, Joseph (Joanne) Johnson and Robert Johnson, both of Dalzell,  David (Carmen) Johnson  and Calvin Johnson, both of Brooklyn, N. Y.,  Teddy Johnson of Sumter;  two sisters-in-law, Mary (Jonathan) McBride of Greenville, and Bessie (Isaac) Davis of Brooklyn, N. Y.; a host of  nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his friend Kathryn Greene.  

Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2012 from the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel,  Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Elder Jannie Dingle, officiating,  eulogist, assisted by Minister Susie Ritter.  

The family will receive friends at the home 4235 Queen Chapel Road, Dalzell.

The funeral procession will leave from the home at 2:30 p. m.  

Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be friends of the family.

Burial will be in the Grant Hill Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Rembert.
