John Dennis

On Monday, January 2, 2012 at 10:00 p. m., John Dennis, 78,  affectionately known as “Dickie”, answered God’s call.  Born on August 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Eugene Dennis, Sr. and Victoria Rembert Dennis.

He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County.  At a young age he was baptized at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, where he was a member of the junior usher board.  John left South Carolina while working with Boyd Construction and went to work for Sprint in North Carolina. Later, he followed his job down to Mabanks, Texas, where he lived for 40 years and retired.

He married Katherine Workman on December 25, 1952.  This union was blessed with three children.  John “Dickie” loved to have fun and joke around.  He worked very hard and love fishing.  He would always bring his family members fish when he came back to South Carolina to visit.  He was a very giving and loving man that always supported his family.

He leaves to cherish his memories:  three daughters, Annette Louise Dennis of Temple Hills, Maryland,  Martha Ann (Richmond) Workman of Washington, D. C., and Victoria “Pennie ( Willie) Young of Rembert;  one brother, Coleman Dennis of Rembert;  three sisters, Carrie Dennis of New York, N. Y.,  Emma Ramsay of Cleveland, OH,  Ella M. Christon of Saluda;  one aunt, Bert Rembert of Florence;  six grandchildren;  twelve great grandchildren;  close cousin, Charles (Mary) Dais;  best friend, Charles Manning of Mabanks, Texas;  close neighbor, Edwin (Sandra) Slaydon of Maybanks, Texas;   a host of  nieces,  nephews, relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Dennis, Sr.;  his mother, Victoria Rembert Dennis; five brothers, David, Eugene, Leon, Marcus, and James; and two sisters, Louise and Thelma.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Tuesday,  January 10, 2012 from the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, 7355 Camden Highway, Rembert  with  the Reverend Anthony L. Taylor, Sr., pastor, presiding,  the Rev.  Freddie Davis, eulogist,  assisted by the Rev. Willie Dennis, Pastor Marie Sanders, and Minister Carol Sanders. 

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Victoria “Pennie” (Willie) Young,  4570 Easy Street, Rembert.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 12:00 noon.

The funeral procession will leave from the home of his daughter at 12:30 p. m.

Floral bearers and  Pall bearers will be friends of the  family.

Burial will be in the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Rembert.
