Christopher Levale Young, 33, earthly life came to a suddenly end on Sunday morning, January 29, 2012 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter. Born in Sumter County on August 25, 1978, he was the son of Betty Clea Martin and the late Lavale Young, Jr.
Chris was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, and was a graduate of Crestwood High School, Class of 1997. He furthered his education by attending Denmark Technical College, Denmark.
At an early age, he joined the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Christian Family, where he was a faithful Sunday School scholar, secretary of the Sunday School, a member of the Youth Choir, Ensemble Choir and the Usher Board.
“Pun”, as he was affectionately known, was a loving son, father, uncle, nephew and friend. He was a fun loving and outgoing person who enjoyed being in the company of others. Chris never met a stranger. He always had a kind work to share. Chris’s faith in God shined from the inside out, allowing him to share his unselfish love that God bestowed upon him to everyone he met. Chris lived life to the fullest.
His fond memories will be cherished by: his fianc’e, Latarsha Rogers; his children, Rhykme Jackson, Christopher K Young, Ty’Wan and Ke’Wan Young; his stepchildren, Antonio and Tylek Anderson; his devoted and loving mother, Betty Clea (Samuel) Martin; brothers, Willie (Laura) McCoy of El Pasco, Texas, Maurice (Monica) Young of Columbia; stepbrothers, Michael (Azie) Holoman of Columbia, Joe Nathan Jenkins and Samuel Leon Martin, both of Sumter; stepsisters, Kendra (Sergio) Elmore of Greenville, Sandra (John) Jenkins of Dalzell, Loranda Martin of Cary, N. C.; grandmother, Ida “Sue” Clea; uncles, Charlie (Ruth) Clea, James (Shirley) Clea, Raymond Clea, all of Rembert; aunts, Dorothy Primus of Sumter, Yvonne (Neal) Wages of Blythewood; grand uncle, Reverend Freddie (Margaret) Davis of Mitchelville, MD; grand aunts, Minnie (James) Nolan of Elgin, Maggie Lane of Sumter, Bellma Davis of Paterson, N. J.; great grand aunt, Bernice Dinkins; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss his friendship dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lavale Young, Jr.; stepmother, Mary Young; grandparents, Charlie Clea, Sr., Lavale Young, Sr., and Vermelle Young; aunt, Celestine Stokes; and stepbrother, Bernard Martin.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, February 4, 2012 from the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, 7355 Camden Highway, Rembert, with the Reverend Anthony L. Taylor, Sr., pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Freddie Davis, Rev. Henry J. Murray, Rev. Dr. Friendly Gadson, and Evangelist Glenda Miller.
The family is receiving friends at the home of Samuel and Betty Clea Martin, 940 Westbury Mill Road, Sumter.
The funeral cortege will leave from the home at 12:20 p. m.
Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be friends.
Burial will be in the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Rembert.
