Letha M. Alston, 58, sunset on Saturday, February 4, 2012 in New York, New York. Born in Sumter County on January 5, 1954, she was the daughter of Samuella Dinkins-Riley. She attended Rafting Creek Elementary School. Letha left South Carolina in 1964 and lived in New York City, N. Y., where she graduated from the New York City Public School System. After graduation, she attended the City College of New York until May of 1977. Later that year, she enlisted in the United States Navy, where she served her country until 1981 and received an honorable discharge.
Letha was baptized in Mariner’s Temple, New York City, N. Y. She was employed with the United States Government Department of Homeland Security, where she retired after twenty-two years of service.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted and loving fiance, Lloyd Wallace; her mother, Samuella Dinkins-Riley and step father, Macon Riley; sisters, Ruby Alston-Mayes, Betty Alston, Elaine Alston, Lillie Alston, Machelle Riley; an adopted sister, Connie Goldston; brothers, Henry Alston, William Alston, Macon Riley, Jr.; adopted brothers, Henry “Boo” Bradford, and Ramson “Gable” Brunson; nieces and nephews, Bryant Mayes, Lamar Brisbon, Tamaree Riley, Brittany Alston, Michael Alston, Nyasia Riley, Justin Riley, Dana Riley; great nephews, Jalen Mayes, Ayden Riley, Colin Harris; great niece, Amaura Brisbon; one uncle, Franklin Dinkins; four aunts, Maggie English, Bertha Dinkins, Clarissa Dinkins, Willie Mae Williams; brothers-in-law, Bobby Mayes, Douglas Lowther, Billy R. Sanders; sister-in-law, Sandy Coleman; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, February 11, 2012 from the Rafting Creek Baptist Church, 3860 Highway 261 North, Rembert, with the Reverend Melvin Mack, pastor, Reverend Frank Williams, Jr., eulogist, assisted by the Reverend John Kennedy.
The family is receiving friends at the home of her mother and step father, Macon and Samuella Dinkins Riley 2718 Powhatan Drive, Sumter.
A wake service will be held 6:00 – 7:00 p. m., Friday in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter.
The Remains will be place in the church at 12:00 noon.
The funeral cortege will leave from the home of her mother and step father at 12:15 p. m.
Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be family and friends.
Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Rembert.
