Leroy Brunson
Jan 06, 1928 to Feb 07, 2012

Leroy Brunson, 84,  was called by our heavenly father for his homegoing at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, N. C. on Tuesday, February 7, 2012.   Born on January 6, 1928 in Lee County, he was the son of Murray and Dora Peterson Brunson.

Mr. Brunson was also known by his family and friends as Pender, Peanut and Nut.  He left Lee County at a young age and moved to Brooklyn, N. Y. where he lived for a number of years prior to relocating to North Carolina seven years ago. In preparing for his spiritual journey, Mr. Brunson renewed his faith by rejoining Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church nearly two years ago.  He was always quick to share his wisdom with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family, whom he adored.  Mr. Brunson can be said to have had the memory of an elephant and a mind as swift as a fox.  He kept his heart open to his family and friends, he’d never let a day go by without reaching out to someone.

Mr. Brunson  is remembered as a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, a brother, uncle and friend to many.  He leaves behind seven daughters, Irene Brunson of Sumter,  Pearl Wright of Winston Salem, N. C. of the home and long time caregiver,  Emma (Francis) Salisbury of Brooklyn, N. Y., Mary English of Miami, FLA,  Mable Brunson of Raleigh, N. C., Brenda (Benjamin) Irving of Baltimore, MD, and Michelle (Anthony) Orange of Augusta, GA;  three sons, James (Anita) Brunson of Baltimore, MD,  Charles (Cassandra) Brunson of Winston Salem, N. C.,  and Yancey (Shelia) Jennings of Dalzell;  twenty five grandchildren;  twenty two great grandchildren;  three great-great grandchildren;  a sister, Rosa (John) Julius of Linden, N. J.; two brothers, Earl Brunson of Woodrow and Elijah Blanding of Jacksonville, FLA;  a very special nephew, Murray “Chico” ( Sytwesha) Washington of High Point, N. C., who loved spending quality time with him;   a  host of  nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative  and close friends.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday,  February 11, 2012  from  the Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church,  2738 Woodrow Road, Sumter, with the Rev.  Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, pastor,  Pastor James W. Brunson, eulogist, assisted by Elder Francis Salisbury, Evangelist Estell Brunson, and Rev. Michael Walters.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter,  Irene Brunson,  106 Lemmon Street,  Sumter.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m.

The funeral procession will leave from the home of his daughter at 11:20 a. m.

Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be friends of the family.

Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.
