Adele Cleo Dunston Bradley, 87, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning. Born in Vidalia, Georgia on February 1, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Charles Henry Dunston and Vestie Lee Collins Dunston.
Adele attended school in Dade County, Jacksonville, Florida. She was converted at an early age and joined her father’s church, Bethlehem Baptist Church. Prior to moving to Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1947, Adele met and married the late Hazel M. Bradley of Dalzell – her husband of 65 years.
Upon moving to Bridgeport, she quickly found a church home at Russell Temple A. M. E. Church and became an active member. Adele was employed at St. Vincent’s Hospital for many years. In 1971, she and her husband returned to Sumter to care for her husband’s ailing mother. Adele then became a member of High Hills A. M. E. Church, where she faithfully served as a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and the Floral Ministry.
She had a passion for God, her family and encouraged all who came into her presence. She was soft spoken and conveyed love with her words, firm in her beliefs, and was beautiful inside and outside.
Surviving are four sons, Gevon (Barbara), Robin, Alphonso, and Kenneth; two daughters, Hazel Joyce (Robert) and Lorraine (Curtiss); a special sister-in-law, Ella Howard; a close relative, Barbara Franklin; eighteen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Nathaniel Bradley.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from the High Hills A. M. E. Church, 6780 Meeting House Road, Dalzell with the Rev. Thomas Habersham, pastor, officiating.
The family will receive friends at her home 6415 Catchall Road, Dalzell.
The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m.
The funeral cortege will leave from her home at 10:20 a. m.
Flora bearers will be the Floral Club and The Women’s Missionary Society.
Pall bearers will be family.
Burial will be in the High Hills A. M. E. Church Yard Cemetery.
