Harmon Isaac, Jr.

Harmon Isaac, Jr., 89, departed this life on Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Dorn VA Hospital, Columbia after an extended illness.  Born in Sumter on April 7, 1922, he was the son of the late Harmon Isaac, Sr. and Janie McClary Isaac.

He attended the public schools of Sumter County and worked as a young lad in farming and general labor.  Mr. Isaac was baptized and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior as a young adult at the Bible Way Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Washington, DC.  He later became an ordained deacon at Bible Way Church in Sumter, which subsequently became known as New Hope Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ and now New Hope Ministries.  The first and most senior deacon in the Church, he served well over 50 years.  Deacon Isaac also served a term as President of the SC State Brotherhood.  His acquisition of the plastering trade enabled him to help build and plaster the first New Hope Church and offered support on the second.  His spiritual and vocational experience helped him to guide many to build character from a solid foundation.

On August 5, 1946, Deacon Isaac was united in Holy Matrimony to Marie Mickens. He was a WWII Veteran, having served his country in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged in 1945.       

To cherish many fond memories are:  his devoted wife of 65 years, Marie Mickens Isaac;  two daughters, Marie (Leroy) Carolina of Philadelphia, PA and Dr. Wilhelmenia I. (LeRoy “Jimmy”) Rembert of Charlotte, N. C.;  one sister, Wilhelmenia I. Jackson of Pahokee, FLA;  eight grandchildren; eleven great grand children; three great-great grand children; six brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Edward (Mary) Isaac, Immanuel Isaac;  one sister, Rebecca Wright; and one daughter, Helen D. (Robert E. ) Wheeler.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 31, 2012 from the New Hope Ministries,  95 Community Street, Sumter with Elder Russell Rodgers, officiating, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Clifton Witherspoon,  Rev. Frank E. Williams, Jr., District Elder Harold Young, Elder James E. Witherspoon, and Elder Herbert Boone. 

The family is receiving friends at the family home 142 North Milton Road, Sumter. 

A wake service will be held 6:00 – 7:00 p. m., Friday, March 30, 2012 in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc.  821 North Main Street, Sumter.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m.

The funeral cortege will leave from his home at 11:20 a. m.

Flora bearers will be the missionaries of New Hope Ministries.

Active Pall bearers will be family and friends.

Honorary Pall bearers will be S. C. State Brotherhood.

Ushers will be ushers of New Hope Ministries.

Burial will be in the Heaven’s Gateway (Bethel –New Hope) Cemetery,  Wedgefield.
