Mary Ellen Diggs Osborne, 60,  wife of Hillard Osborne, Sr.,  entered into eternal rest on  Sunday, April 1, 2012 in Washington, D. C.  Born on August 7, 1951 in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late June Hamptons Diggs and Mary Ellen Diggs Moody. She was also the step daughter of the late Oliver Moody, Sr.

“Percy Mae” or “Dixie”, as she was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Sumter County.  Mary came to know Christ at an early age.  She attended Rafting Creek Baptist Church while living in South Carolina.  Mary relocated to Washington, D. C. with here husband, where she spent the rest of her life.  She also attended Pilgrim Baptist Church, Washington, D. C.

Mary was  a devoted worker at Georgetown Law Center for 25 years, until she became ill.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband, Hillard Osborne, Sr. of Washington, D. C.;  two daughters, Cynthia Teresa (Walter) Osborne-Hagins of Maryland and Tara Ellyse Osborne of Washington, D. C;  two sons, Hillard Osborne, Jr. and Jerome Killmon Osborne, both of Washington, D. C.;  four sisters, Bellma Diggs-Davis of Paterson, N. J., Carolyn Diggs, Marion Diggs, Beulah (Leroy) Dennis, all of Rembert; one brother, Junior (Annie) Diggs of Rembert; two step brothers, Oliver Moody, Jr. of Bridgeport, CT  and Jeremiah (Helen) Moody of Sumter; three step sisters, Naomi Moody of Sumter,  Mary Moody of Rembert and Juanita Dinkins of New Haven, CT; one uncle, James Mayrant of Rembert; three aunts, Minnie (Joe) Mayrant, Queen Dennis and Georgia (Arthur) Floyd, all of Rembert; her mother-in-law, Emma Osborne Sanders of Rembert; eight sisters-in-law, Geneva Murphy, Marilyn D. Workman-Duvall, Marcia (Elliott) Major, Fannie (Marion) Moore, Mary (Caleb) Kershaw, Martha Sanders, Janie Moore, Martha Workman;  four brothers-in-law, Joseph (Cheryl) Sanders, Richmond Workman, Felix (Doris) Workman and Morris Workman; eight step children; a host of  grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews,  cousins  and friends.  She also leaves to cherish her memories, her very special friends, Mary Johnson,  Gloria, Barbara, Lisa, Pam. Jean, and Mrs. Williams.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Sampson “Peter” Diggs; one sister, Virginia “Ma” Wade; one step brother, Iren “Bernard” Moody, and three sisters, Louise Spann,  Marilyn Ricks and Daisy M. Black.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m., Sunday, April 8, 2012 from the Rafting Creek Baptist Church, Highway 261 North, Rembert, with the Rev. Melvin Mack, pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Lillian Reynolds and the Rev. John F. Kennedy.

The family is receiving friends at the home of her sister, Beulah Dennis  6110 Catawba Road, Rembert.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 1:00 p. m.

The funeral procession will leave from the home of her sister at 1:20 p. m.

Floral bearers will be nieces and friends.

Pall bearers will be nephews and friends.

Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Churchyard Cemetery, Rembert.
