Ezra Dale Mickens, 59, departed this earthly life on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Tuomey Medical Center, Sumter. Born in Sumter County on February 5, 1953, he was the son of Paul Mickens, Sr. and Thelma Outing Mickens. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and a graduate of Lincoln High School, Class of 1970.
He was affiliated with the Rafting Creek Baptist Church family. Ezra was employed with Campbell Soup Company for many years.
He was previously married to Joyce Funchess Mickens. He was a people person and a great southern gentleman who loved being out on the farm.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted and loving daughter, Tamikka Mickens (Antonio) James, and a son, Antonio Dale Anderson, both of Sumter; one granddaughter, Shakera La’quasia Anderson of Sumter; two brothers, Paul (Anne) Mickens, Jr. of Bishopville and Jimmie (Elnora) Mickens of Marietta, GA; two sisters, Joyce (Doug) Maree of Rock Hill, and Leila (Herman) Prioleau of Charlotte, N. C.; his mother-in-law, Willie Mae Waklatsi of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Catherine Pringle Mickens of Sumter; his best friend, Frank Moses; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Manning and Wilhelmina Outing; paternal grandmother, Ella Mickens; a sister, Cynthia Holloway, and a brother, Elvin Mickens.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon., Saturday, June 30, 2012 from the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Ernest Jackson, officiating, eulogist, Pastor Stanley E. Hayes, Sr., presiding, assisted by the Rev. Georgia Walker, Pastor Rossi Ramsey, and Rev. Frank Williams, Jr.
The family will receive friends at the home of his brother, Paul Mickens, Jr. 325 Crawford Road, Bishopville and at the home of his daughter, Tamikka Mickens 50 Aniline Court, Sumter.
The funeral procession will leave 11:20 a. m. from the home of his brother.
Floral bearers will be Lincoln High School, Class of 1970.
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, Sumter.
