Paul Dinkins

Paul “Shorty” Dinkins, 91, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Springdale Nursing Home, Camden. Born September 9, 1920 in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Hodge and Leacy Mills Dinkins.

He accepted Christ as his Saviour at an early age and became an active member of the Rafting Creek Baptist Church, where he attended and served faithfully as a member of the Trustee Ministry.

He met and married the late Rebecca Pressley Dinkins and to their union were born seven children.

He was employed by Boozer and Warden Construction Company for 41 years  from which he retired.  After retirement, he worked for Sanders Construction for a number of years until his health began to fail.

“Shorty”, as he was known to all, was a man of stature and strength to his family, friends, church and community.  He left behind a legacy of confidence, endurance and servanthood to all he came in contact with.  His hands were hands that toiled and labor for the good of all.

He leaves to cherish his memory: three children Deacon Jhonnie Dinkins (Annette),  Lawrence Dinkins (Ruth), Wanda Robinson (Angelo), and one whom he took as his own, Jackie Dinkins, all of Rembert;  one brother, Deacon Edgar Dinkins; two sisters, Millie Alston and Edmonia Wade, all of Rembert;  one son-in-law, Gerald Garrett of Powder Springs, GA;  two sisters-in-law, Catherine Dinkins of Rembert,  Rosa Wright of Harlem, N. Y.;  one brother-in-law, Edward “Bubba” Pressley  of  Hempstead, N. Y.; fifteen grand children;  twenty eight great grandchildren;  a host of  nieces, nephews, loving cousins  and friends that will always treasure his memory.  

He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Silas; four children, Samuel Paul, Clarence, Dorothy and Stella, and 13 siblings.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p. m., Sunday, September 2, 2012 from the Rafting Creek Baptist Church, 3860 Highway 261 North, Rembert, with the Rev. Melvin Mack, Pastor, presiding,  Pastor Burdell Hill, eulogist, assisted by Rev. Sharon Boyd, Rev. Henry Boyd, Minister Carol Sanders, and Rev. Lillian Reynolds.

The family will receive friends at the family home, 4395 Spencer Road, Rembert.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 1:30 p. m.

The funeral procession will leave the family home at 1:45 p. m.

Flower bearers will be nieces.

Pall bearers will be nephews.

Honorary Flower bears and pall bearers will be Rafting Creek Trustee Ministry.

Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
