Ruth Mae Brunson Davis, 75, entered eternal rest on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Tuomey Health Care System, Sumter. Born in Sumter County on May 9, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Henry Mickens and Julia Brunson Dow.
Ruth received her education in the Sumter Public School System and graduated from Ebenezer High School, Class of 1955.
She began her Christian journey at Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, Woodrow, at an early age, where she was a faithful member of the Sunday School, Stewardess Board #2 and the Women’s Missionary Society (Sumter Unit).
Ruth was employed as a seamstress with Moses’ Upholstery for many years. She enjoyed sewing, solving crossword puzzles and word searches. She also had a passion for yard work to include planting flowers, mowing lawn and clipping hedges; traveling to yard sales with her niece, Lynn; taking long walks for exercise, as well as for fun; and sitting on her porch talking with her close neighbors, Cindy and Sheila. Her greatest enjoyment was having her children and grandchildren over for Sunday dinners.
Her precious memories will be cherished by: her two daughters, Tina and Beverly Davis; two grandchildren, Tori and Quentin (Angela) Davis; five great grandchildren, Nijah, Caleb, Jeniya, Madison and Jonee’; six sisters, Ellen Washington, Cynthia Andry, Patricia (Michael) Price, Mary “Lou” Jenkins, Dorothy Sinkler, and Ruby Robinson; two brothers, Jonathan and Tony (Bonnie) Dow; Keith Leverett, whom she loved as a son; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Rounette and Diane Davis, and one brother, Alvin Dow.
Funeral services will be held noon, Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Woodrow, with the Rev. Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, pastor, eulogist, assisted by Evangelist Estelle V. Brunson, Bishop John Belton, Apostle Diane Van Buren and Pastor Richard James.
The family will receive friends at her home, 215 Crescent Avenue, Sumter.
The procession will leave from her home at 11:20 a. m.
Floral bearers will be Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church Stewardesses and the Women’s Missionary Society.
Pall bearers will family, friends and Sons of Allen.
Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, Sumter.
