Gertrude Oliver Jett, 77, widow of Johnnie Lee Jett, departed this earthly life on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Sumter Valley Rehabilitation Center, Sumter. Born on March 30, 1935 in Mayesville (Sumter County), she was the daughter of the late Clyde Oliver, Sr. and Margaret Anthony Oliver. She was educated in the public school system of Sumter County.
She was a loving homemaker. Known for her kindness and generous nature, Gertrude was a true blessing to all who knew her. She was an asset to her community, church and most of all to her family. She worked as a housekeeper for well over fifty years.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Samuel (Brenda) Oliver; four grandchildren and one grandson raised as a son, Ronnie (Cheryl) English; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Marjorie (John) Jenkins, Ruby (Willie) Champagne, Mary Oliver; one brother, James (LC) Oliver; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; two aunts, Everlena McCain, Rosa Lee Anthony; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, other relatives and friends;
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, one son, two sisters, two brothers, one aunt and three uncles..
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Friday, November 23, 2012 from the Antioch United Methodist Church, 4040 Dubose Siding Road, Sumter, with the Reverend Lawrence Canty, pastor, eulogist.
The family will receive friends at her home 4605 Lodebar Road, Sumter.
The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m.
The funeral procession will leave her home at 10:30 a. m.
Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be friends of the family.
Burial will be in the White’s Cemetery, Sumter.
