Edmund L. Jenkins

Edmund L. Jenkins,  60,  went home to be with the Lord on   Saturday,  April 18,  2009,   at  the Providence Hospital, Columbia.

Born in Sumter County on July 9, 1948,  he was the son of the late Elias Jenkins and Catherine McCaw Jenkins.

He was baptized at an early age at his home church, Joshua Baptist Church.  Edmund attended the public school of Sumter County, graduating from Ebenezer High School with the class of 1967. He was a veteran of the United States Army.  He attended Allen University, Columbia, and  graduated from Sumter Area Technical College with a Degree in Technical Engineering.

Edmund was employed with DuPont until his retirement in 2001.  While employed with DuPont, he became an avid and enthusiastic bowler.  He was a great story teller and joker, and these attributes will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Edmund is survived by five daughters,  Vandella Clea,  Natra Jenkins, Anita Wright, Laquilla Kelly  (AI) and Mary D. (Calvin) Miller;  seven grandchildren,  Mary Catherine Jenkins, Samantha Clea, Sean Clea, Diamond Simon,  Aaron, Ariel, and Rashad Miller;  seven sisters,  Annie Mae Price of Newport News, VA,  Barbara Dease (Herbert),  Eva Mae Glover (David), Cathy M. Jenkins, Linda Jenkins, all of Sumter,  Pamela Belk (Jason) and Jacqueline Jenkins, both Albany GA;  two brothers, Ronnie Jenkins  (Kimberly)  of Sumter, and Hamilton Jenkins of Atlanta, GA;  two maternal aunts,  Lottie Mae Anderson of Hyattsville, MD, and Mary Francis Thomas of Washington, DC;  ten nephews;  eleven nieces; a devoted cousin and friend, Marion S. McCaw;  a host of other  relatives  and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elias  and  Catherine Jenkins and a sister, Doris Jenkins Dow.

Funeral services will be held  1:00 p. m.,   Wednesday, April 22, 2009  from The Joshua Baptist Church,  5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell,  with Rev. Eugene G. Dennis, pastor,  eulogist,  assisted by Rev. Durant Jenkins and Minister Lorraine Parker.

The family will receive  friends  at the family home  5054 Live Oak Road, Dalzell.

The Remains will be placed in the church at noon.

The funeral procession  will leave from the  family home at  12:30 p. m.

Floral bearers will be nieces.

Pall bearers will be members of the Joshua Baptist Church Trustee Board.

Burial will be in the Joshua Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Dalzell.
