Samuel Richardson
Jul 02, 1923 to Jun 12, 2013

Samuel “Nomore” Richardson, 89, fondly known as “Papa” to his grandchildren, was born on July 2, 1923 in Sumter.  At age 14, he left home to find work to help support his mother, the late Phyllis Jenkins Richardson and his siblings after the passing of his father, the late Frank Richardson.  He departed this life on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Sumter Valley Nursing Home, Sumter.

In the early sixties, he met and married Winnie Mae McDowell, who preceded him in death fourteen years ago.  Samuel worked more than 30 years for the City of Paterson, which he retired from in 1989 and relocated back to Sumter.  Samuel loved his church, the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, but due to illness in these past few years he was unable to attend, however he kept the church family close to his heart.

Samuel loved his family.  There was nothing he would not do for them.  He was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle.  He also loved the outdoors, gardening, fishing and hunting.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: one daughter, Phyllis Pittman (James) of Paterson, NJ;  five sons, Richard McDowell (Sandy), Edward McDowell, Johnny Richardson of Paterson, NJ, Woodrow McDowell of Connecticut and Alphonso Richardson of Long Island, NY;  a granddaughter and son-in-law, Janiece (Andrew C.) Little of Sumter;  one sister, Mary Lee Davis of Paterson, NJ; fifteen other grandchildren, James, Jr., Yvonne, Richard Jr., Evony, Edward  Jr., Samara, Serina, Damir, Jessica, Alphonso Jr., Maleek, Quadir, Quadeja, Zhane and Jaqvan; two great grandchildren, Payton Madison and Garnette Perry;  a very special family, Andrew Sr. and Annabell Little and family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, 184 Lake Ashwood Road,  Sumter, with the Rev. Kenneth N. Carter, pastor, eulogist.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the home of his granddaughter and son-in-law, Janiece and Andrew Little,  1017 Decatur Street, Sumter.

The Remains will be placed in the church at 12:00 noon.

The funeral procession will leave at 12:20 p. m. from the home of his granddaughter and son-in-law.

Floral bearers will be family and friends.

Pall bearers will be sons and family.

Burial will be in the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church Cemetery, Sumter.
