Joann Jacobs Johnson, 59, died Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Orangeburg Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg. Born on May 24, 1954, in Loris, she was the daughter of Earline Jones and the late Claude Grate. She was raised by her grandmother, the late Earline Jacobs. She received her education in the school system of Brooklyn, NY. At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal savior and became a member of All Peoples’ Church, Brooklyn, NY In 2000, Joann moved to Dalzell, where she became a member of Faith Deliverance Temple, Mayesville, and later she joined House of Prayer Worship and Praise, Sumter, under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Jannie Dingle.
On April 28, 1973, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Joseph Johnson and to this union three children were born.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband of 40 years, Joseph Johnson; her mother, Earline Jones; two sons, Bernard (Darlene) Jacobs of Tabor City, NY and Antione (Octavia) Johnson of Baltimore, MD; one step son, Joseph Johnson, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY; two daughters, Vanessa Johnson of Baltimore, MD and Melinda Johnson of Jersey City, NJ; five grandchildren, Andrae Jacobs, Bernard Jacobs, Jr., Zaquan Antione Johnson, Kash Amir Johnson and Titeanna Wright; one great grandson, Noah Isiah Jacobs; two god daughters, Iasia Lee and Alexandria Rudd; one god son, Jerome Ortiz; six brothers, Collins Jones of Loris, Dave Jones of Boone, NC, Gregory, Demar, Claude (Juanita) and Michael Grate, all of Florida; six sisters, Theresa Hemmingway, Gwendolyn Bridges of Summerville, Yvonne Grate of Florida, Paulette (Charles) Grate, Frankie Jones of Loris, Gloria Brown of Marion; three sisters-in-law, Melissa Goodman of Dalzell, Mary (Jonathan) McBride of Sumter, Louella (Isaac) Davis of Brooklyn, NY; four brothers-in-law, Calvin, Teddy (Cynthia), and David (Carmen) Johnson, all of Brooklyn, NY, Robert Lee (Mary) Johnson of Dalzell; two special nieces, Machelle and Lachelle Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, and one grandchild, Charmaine Jacobs.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, June 29, 2013 from the Beulah AME Church, 3175 Florence Highway (Highway 76 East), Sumter, with Pastor Janie Dingle, pastor of House of Prayer Worship and Praise, officiating, eulogist, assisted by Bishop Jeffery Johnson, Pastor Linda Speed, Bishop Preston Goodwin, Minister Susie Ritter and Minister Valerie McKie.
The family will receive friends and relatives at the home 4845 Cannery Road, Dalzell.
The Remains will be placed in the church at 12:00 noon.
The funeral procession will leave at 12:20 p. m. from the home.
Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be family and friends.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 North Guignard Drive, Sumter.
