Annie Mae Martin Carolina, 40, wife of Nelson Carolina, Jr., departed this earthly life on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Tuomey Health Care System after a long term illness. Born in Sumter County on January 25, 1969, she was a daughter of Marion and Aleone Jenkins Martin, Sr.

 

She attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Hillcrest High School, Dalzell, Class of 1988. She was employed with Gold Kist, Inc. for many years, later joined the Young’s Food Stores, Inc., where she worked until her illness.

At an early age she joined Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, Woodrow. She was a member of the Sumter Chapter National Federation of the Blind.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband of 13 years, Nelson Carolina, Jr.; one son, Tre’von Wheeler; one daughter, Faneishea Sumpter; two grandsons, Ty Jayus and Anthony Graham, Jr.; one granddaughter, Saniya Tylashia Wheeler, all of Sumter; her loving parents, Marion and Aleone Martin, Sr.; six sisters, Shirley Greenwood, Shirley Ann McMillian, Bertha L. Leonard, Janie Mae Martin, all of Sumter, Mary Jenkins of Alexandria, VA, Annie Mae Moore of Charlotte, N. C.; three brothers, Joe Jenkins, Marion Martin, Jr., and Timothy Abrams, all of Sumter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Bertha Abrams; grandfathers, Rochelle Martin, Sr., and Edward Delaine; and two aunts, Betty Lou Diggs and Susie Jenkins.

 

Funeral services will be held 3:30 p. m., Saturday, August 1, 2009 from The Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church 2738 Woodrow Road, Sumter, with Reverend Timothy A. Johnson, Sr., pastor, eulogist.

The family will receive friends at the family home 82 West Brewington Road, Sumter.

The funeral procession will leave from the family home at 3:00 p. m.

Floral Bearer will be friends of the family

Pall Bearers will be cousins.

Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Sumter.
