Odessa Elizabeth “Bet” Grant, 51, departed this life on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC.  Born on October 9, 1961, in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late James Grant, Jr. and Katie Grant.   She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, where she was a graduate of Hillcrest High School.

At an early age,  Odessa accepted Christ as her personal Savior and  was a faithful member of  Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Washington, DC. She based and lived her life according to the words of II Chronicles 7:14. Odessa was a strong woman of faith and believed that she could do all things through Christ which strengthen her.

Odessa was a devoted employee with the Department of Transportation for twenty-two years.  Words alone, can’t explain the humor and joy that she embodied, she could make you laugh without even trying.  Odessa was a very compassionate individual who loved and cherished her family.  She always put her nieces, nephews, and siblings before herself to ensure they were happy.

 She leaves to cherish her precious memories:  her devoted siblings, Susie Grant and Katie (Stanley) Johnson of Washington, DC,  Albert (Donna) Grant, Stephanie and Trelvin Grant of Rembert and Cynthia (Johnny) Dinkins of Sumter;  three nieces, Shakia, Aviauna and Justice;  five nephews, Jamar, Jasper, Theo, Patrick Jr. and Trelvin, Jr.; two great nieces, Devine and Serenity;  one great nephew, Jasper, Jr.; a special goddaughter, Keishawn Brunson; two adopted brothers, Marcus and Marvin Alston;   and a host of  aunts, uncles,  other relatives  and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, August 3, 2013 from the Greater Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 609 Miller Road, Sumter, with  Bishop Marvin Hodge, Sr., pastor, eulogist, assisted by. Dr. D. L. Grant, Sr., presiding, assisted by the Rev. Frank Williams, Jr. and Minister William Sanders.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the home of her sister, Cynthia Dinkins, 883 Whatley Street, Sumter.

The funeral procession will leave at 12:20 p. m. from the home of Stephanie Grant, 5590 Stage Coach Road, Rembert

Floral bearers and Pall  bearers  will be family and friends. 

Burial will be in the Greater Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.
