Frederick Cordasco Green, 49, husband of Stephanie Thames Green, departed this life on Monday, August 26, 2013 at his home in Sumter. Born June 16, 1964 in Newark, N. J., he was the son of George T. Green, Jr. and the late Bertha Spann Green. He attended school in Roselle, N. J. and was a high school graduate.
Frederick accepted Christ at an early age at St. Matthew Baptist Church, Roselle, N. J., where he played the guitar. He started playing guitar at a very early age. Through the years, Fred, his brother and cousins started singing as the Gospel Revivals Jr. after his father and uncle’s group the Gospel Revivals of Sumter / Newark, N. J. As they got older they changed the name to the Royal Crowns. They were on a show with the Gospel Keynotes and one of the members asked Willie Neal Johnson could they be the Gospel Keynotes Jr. To their surprise he said yes. Fred, his brother, and his cousins traveled and toured locally with the Gospel Keynotes for many years and recorded an album as the Gospel Keynotes Jr. Fred later moved to Sumter, and joined Mt. Glory Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a musician until his demise.
Frederick worked as a custodian at Crestwood High School and church musician until his death. He loved to play guitar, sing with the Gospel Kings and fellowship with friends and family.
Frederick leaves to cherish his precious memories; his wife, Stephanie Green of Sumter; four children, Tisha Bolden of Elizabeth, N. J., Farahd Green of Linden, N. J., Tiffany Sneed of Columbia and Jordan Pierre of Manning; three grandchildren, Shakiah, Malachi, and Dashanay; one brother, Jerome (Karen) Green of Irvington, N. J.; one sister, Evette (Oren) Wildman of Linden, N. J.; brother-in-law, Darren (Shawnda) Thames of Los Vegas, NV; sister-in-law, Barbette Thames of Sumter; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Spann Green; maternal grandparents, Eugene and Hassie Mae Porter Spann; and paternal grandparents, Deacon George Green and Pink Linton Green.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Saturday, August 31, 2013 from the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Reverend Mary Harvin, officiating, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Doris Bright.
The family will receive friends and relatives at his home, 1072 Porter Street, Sumter.
The funeral procession will leave from the home at 10:30 a. m.
