Jessie Wilson, affectionately known as “T-Tar”, was born September 4, 1958 in Sumter.  He was the beloved son of the late Henry Wilson, Jr. and Alice Coe Wilson.  On Thursday, September 5,  2013,  the death angel came to  Tuomey Healthcare Medical Center, Sumter, to escort “T” to his eternal rest.   Jessie received his education in the Sumter County public schools, graduating from Sumter High School, Class of 1976.  He attended Morris College for nearly 2 years and briefly served in the United States Navy. 

He was an avid reader and excellent in math.  He loved music and enjoyed playing the bass guitar.  “T” was also an excellent athlete during his high school days.

“T” loved to engage in conversation about baseball, basketball and especially football.  He would often give Tra’shad (his nephew) pointers on how to gain yards on the football field.  Even though, he appeared to be quiet, he was a wealth of knowledge.  His cherished memories are embedded deeply within our hearts.

Jessie is survived by his wife, Brenda Brown-Wilson;  a daughter, Tia; a son, Brian; and two grandchildren.  His memory will be cherished by his loving sister, Dr. Sonja Wilson-Murphy;  nieces, Carolyn Wilson-Baker and Tameka (Stacy) Brogdon-Jett of Sumter;  nephews, Marcus Murphy, Jamaal and Trevor Jackson, all of Sumter;  aunts, Gracie Dell Lyde, Mary Francis Blackmon of Darlington,  Thelma Mae Jones of Charlotte, NC, Mildred Coe and Cozetta Coe, of New York;  Sondra (Buford) Wilson of Mayesville, and Lou Ella Benton of Sumter;  uncles, Donald (Beverly) Wilson and Albert Wilson of Baltimore, MD;  grand nieces and nephews;  special relatives, Jessie Watson of Delaware,  James Benton of New York, Geraldine Crosland of New York, James Coe and Jacqueline Lyde of Darlington,  and   a  host of  other relatives and  friends.

Jessie was preceded  in death by his parents, Alice and Henry Wilson, Jr.;  three brothers, Isaac (Bossie),  Wayne (Ducey), and Willie Wilson;  one nephew, Donte’ Walker;  maternal grandparents, Jessie and Grace Coe;  paternal grandparents, Henry and Geneva Wilson;  four uncles, Jessie and Allen Coe,  Leroy and Robert Wilson; and four aunts, Betty Coe, Dorothy Williams, Elizabeth Brown and Queen Esther King.

Funeral services will be held  1:00  p. m., Friday, September 13, 2013 from the Grace Cathedral Ministries Church,  60 Oswego Highway,  Sumter, with  the Rev. Anthony Gibson, pastor, the Rev. Ricky Simmons, eulogist,  Elder William Hairston, presiding,  assisted by Minister Derek Spann, Rev. Eston Wells, Jr., and Evangelist Gadie White.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the home of his sister,  Dr. Sonja Wilson Murphy,  1039 Huddersfield Drive, Sumter.

The funeral procession will leave from the home of his sister at 12:30 p. m.  

Floral bearers will be nieces, cousins and classmates.  

Pall bearers will be nephews, cousins and classmates.

Burial will be in the Mayesville Cemetery, Mayesville.
