Carl Thomas Dixon, 65, departed this life on Friday, December 13, 2013 at his home in Sumter. Born January 15, 1948, in Farmville, (Pitt County) N. C., he was the son of the late Joe Dixon, Jr. and Easter Vail Dixon.
He received his education from the Greene County public school system and graduated with the Class of 1966 from South Greene High School, Snow Hill, N. C. In 1967, he entered the United States Air Force and served his country for 26 years. Following his retirement from the Air force in 1991, he continued to work as a Correctional Officer in Bishopville and Court Security Officer in Columbia, permanently retiring in 2009.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Stamatina “Matoula” Dixon; one son, Llewellyn “Lou” Ellis (Debra) of Hampton, VA; two daughters, Kimberly Dixon of Oakland, CA and Angela Dixon of Atlanta, GA; one grandson, Antwon Ellis; one granddaughter, Shanice Ellis; two sister Deloris Dixon of Farmville, N. C. and Margie Dean Warren (Williams) of Snow Hill, N. C.; one brother Joe Morris Dixon (Daisy) of Lake Wylie, S. C.; two aunts, Edna Earl Daniels of Farmville, N. C and Naileen Vail of Washington, D. C.; one sister-in-law, Anastacia (Konstandinos) Stergiopoulou; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law; and one brother, Richard Earl Dixon.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc. 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Michael McCall, officiating, eulogist.
The family is receiving friends and relatives at the family home, 1094 Kentwood Drive, Sumter and at John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel, Monday from 4:00 – 5:00 p. m.
The funeral procession will leave from the family home at 11:20 a. m.
Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be family and friends.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park, Sumter.
