Roosevelt Sanders
Apr 10, 1936 to Dec 26, 2013

Roosevelt Sanders, 77, a child of God was called peacefully to eternal life on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at his residence.

Roosevelt, affectionately known as “Tootie Boy”, was born April 10, 1936, in Rembert (Sumter County), to the late James Sanders and Bownie James Sanders. He was reared in Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, Rembert.

Roosevelt attended the public schools of Sumter County.  He served in the United States Army for three years and was a veteran of the Korean War.  After returning to civilian life, he worked for the United States Post Office until he retired.

Roosevelt was married for 50 years to his beloved, whom he affectionately called “My Boo”, Naomi Dennis who he loved, and adored.  They had one lovely daughter, Marilyn Sanders.

He joined and was baptized at Carolina Missionary Baptist Church, Washington, DC in 1962.  In 1972, he relocated to Rembert and reunited with his home church, Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of his father-in-law, the late Reverend A. D. Dennis, Sr., where he served for ten years as a member of the Trustee Ministry.  Because of his business sense, loyalty, dedication and love for his church, he was elected chairman of the Trustee Ministry for seventeen years.  At the end of his tenure, he was honored with the title “Chairman Emeritus” until his death.

Roosevelt enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.  He loved traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

There comes a time in every Christian life when each must bow to the will of God and leave behind the ones of this earthly life.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Robinson, Lee Bertha Mitchell and Julia Mae Wilson;  two brothers, Albert and James Sanders, Jr.

To cherish his fond memories, he leaves his devoted wife, Naomi Sanders; one daughter, Marilyn Sanders of the home;  four sisters, Rose Lee Pollard and Dorothy Bolden of Rembert, Carrie Lee Edwards of Augusta, GA, Catherine Murphy of Columbia;  three aunts, Sallie Tarvor of Columbus, OH, Lavenia Harriot and Pauline Herrington, both of New York;  one uncle, Walter Sanders of Rembert; his in-laws, Ella Bell Watson (Allen) of Summerville, Rev.
