Wilhelmenia Mills Thomas, 90, went to be with God on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Sumter East Health and Rehab Center, Sumter.
Born in Sumter County on March 29, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Wilson Mills.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Luke A M E Church. Later, she became affiliated with Metropolitan United Methodist Church while living in Brooklyn, N. Y., and returned to her home church after her retirement.
Aunt Menia, as she was affectionately called, did not have any biological children of her own, but all of her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews were her children through abundant love. She was always an up-front, honest – tell it like it is, jolly person. Aunt Menia always felt a connection with her family and kept in touch with everyone as much as possible. She was an independent out going and private person, who always protected her family in a positive way.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a sister, Frances (Joe) Elliard of Deer-Park, New York; one loving sister-in-law, Queen Mills; a host of caring nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends at the family home 1990 North St. Paul Church Road, Sumter.
The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m.
The funeral procession will leave from the family home at 10:30 p. m.
