On January 1, 2015, God called Oldiest “Dewey” Julius, 68, home to rest.. Born May 14, 1946, in Lee County, he was the son of the late Dewey Julius and Louise Stuckey Julius. He attended the public schools of Lee County. At an early age he attended Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church. Oldest worked at Campbell Soup of Sumter until his retirement. He loved listening to country western music and watching the Atlanta Braves baseball. Oldest was affectionately loved and known my many. All the knew him called him “Cowboy”. Though, he will truly be missed, he will be cherished in loving memories by: four children, Richard Julius;, Lisa Julius (Calvin) of Columbia, Alexander Dinkins of Sumter, Lillie Chandler (Kenny) of the home; four step children, Thomasina Chandler (Kevin), Willie Chandler of Sumter, Terry Shannon of Florence and Sam Shannon of Georgia; one sister, Rosa (Larry) Royale of East Brunswick, N. J.; three brothers, Thomas (Essie) Julius of Irvington, N. J., Luther Marion Julius of Columbus, OH, and Jerome Julius of Newark, N. J.; nine sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; three aunts; three uncles; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Julius; a daughter, Cynthia Isaac; two great grandchildren, Jy’Karie Nelson and Kenyatta Nelson; a sister, Annette Julius Scott, and three brothers, John Lee, James “Ebby”, and Charles Julius. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 10, 2015 from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with Minister Jake Sanders, officiating, eulogist. The family is receiving family and friends at the home, 827 Manning Avenue, Sumter. The procession will leave from the home at 11:30 a. m. Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be family and friends. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery.
