Abraham Mitchell, 82, husband of Kathryn Workman Mitchell, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Tuomey Health Care System, Sumter. Born November 19, 1932, in Rembert (Sumter County), he was the son of the late William Mitchell and Minnie Holiday Mitchell. He was a member of Rafting Creek Baptist Church. Abraham attended the public schools system of Sumter County. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. After returning with an honorable discharge to civilian life, he worked for Gebhardt Construction, Inc, Washington, DC, for twenty years until he retired. Abraham always said what he meant and meant what he said. He always had words of wisdom to give to those around him whether they liked it or not. Abraham was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who aspired to have a better life or needed a place to stay when they came to D. C. His motto was: “I don’t have any money, but I can feed you”. He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife of 52 years, Kathryn Workman Mitchell of the home; his children, Kenneth Mae Mitchell of Columbia, William D. Mitchell and Victoria D. Young of Rembert, Annette L. Dennis of Temple Hills, MD, Martha A. D. Workman of Washington, DC, Karen Y. Mitchell of Temple Hills, MD, Kelly B. Mitchell-Baynes of Washington, DC, and Brian A. Mitchell of Greenbelt, MD; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; three brothers, Francis and Issac Mitchell of Washington, DC, Johnny Mitchell of Columbus, OH; one sister, Roberta Shirley of Oxon Hills, MD; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, neighbors, dear friends, James “Buck” Grant, Lewis “Niki” Mayrant and Robert “Junior” Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mary Alice James, Fannie “Het” Jenkins and his brothers, William and David Mitchell. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, April 18, 2015 from the Rafting Creek Baptist Church, 3860 Highway 261 North, Rembert, with the Rev. Melvin Mack, Pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Freddie Davis. The family is receiving family and friends at the home, 6440 Dinkins Mill Road, Rembert. The Remains will be placed in the church at 12:00 noon, Saturday for viewing until time of the service. The procession will leave from the home at 12:20 p. m. Floral bearers and Pall bearers will be family and friends. Interment will be 11:00 A. M., Tuesday, April 21, 2015 in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia..
